Mechanized Animal
– Project Description
I have designed a project called Mechanized Animal. This project explores the theme of animal being transformed into partly mechanical creatures. It focuses on change the animal’s inside into a game world. As the game, the player will go through inside the animal. To win the game, you have to find the way out by avoiding the liquid and cogs. This project has enabled me to apply my own ideas and innovate traditional game techniques.
– Biography
My name is Bing Qing Xu, I come from Canada. After the influence by Tencent’s game “PUBG Mobile,” I hope to become a game designer in the future. I want to study in BA (Hons) Game design at London College of Communication for next year, so I can further develop my game design skill. Since studying at UAL, I have learnt lots of techniques to explore my ideas. For example, I have learnt photography, stop-motion animation, typography, and collage. In the future, I hope to learn more techniques to perfect my game design skills. Especially, Unity 3D and Blender.

TRANSFORM – Reflect 02.
In this project, I think my entire ideas are perfect and complete. The overall effect of the works produced is very good. But in terms of time, I need more control and budget space. As an explanation, when I tried to render the scenes from Maya, the time required to be exceeded my estimate. Each frame of Maya needs to be rendered. It is estimated that one frame of the painting is five minutes. This is beyond my budget. My primary and secondary searches are relevant to my final outcome. I got a lot of inspiration from the workshop. In the future, if I need to make the same type of animation, I will start rendering its pictures one day in advance
Project Proposal 02.
The main focus point of my project is animal testing. I want to transform the animal body to mechanize. Players will be able to use the game console to control the character. Which allows a player to climb and jump inside the animal’s body and find the way out. This game is very suitable for players aged between 17 to 40. It’s very suitable for people who like to explore and pursue excitement. I want to make a 3D adventure game; player can control the operation keys from the game console. My main purpose is to show a different gaming world. I want to create a new type of game that no one has mentioned before. Through this game, I will show my creative thoughts and ability to use lighting, special effects, and 3D Modelling.
I get a lot of inspiration from my research. The first game that affected me is the “Transform game”. This game turns locomotives into a combat robot. It reminds me of the transformation of machines and creatures. After that, I found Nicolas Ridous’s illustration. It reminds me to systemized the operation of the object. Then I collage some magazine papers, it makes me want to reorganize these mechanical parts and become a new object. Later, I searched for some mechanical animals and building block animals with my partner. Among them, the biggest inspiration for me is the game “Demo.” I was inspired by the game environment and atmosphere. This reminds me of the fear and despair that people feel in a dark environment and facing unknown creatures. After doing all this researches. I reorganize the mechanical parts and recombine them. The mechanical parts will become the internal structure of the animal.
I want to show my game in Maya to explore my ideas. I will use Maya modeling and create the characters. First, I sketch the models in Photoshop, then I build the models in Maya. After that, I searched for the materials to add colors to my objects. In addition, I will make a PDF about my game concept. This PDF will include all the information I have done so far. For instance, this document will include primary and secondary research, game background information, timetable, game rules, game concept, and research.
In this project, I will explain the operation process of the game and the basic appearance of the game. In addition, I will also write about the rules, background, and main goals of the game. This game will be a success if it can be successfully operated. I think the game I designed can be used by the game console. The players control the actions of the characters through the game console. The projector plays the game screen. Players can turn on the projector to play the games at any time.
After the game is completed, I think I will be more certain of my professional direction. I hope my future can develop towards game design. What I want is to innovate and break the previous game limit. If I have the opportunity, I hope to be able o make games that simulate the real environment and higher technology game products.

The Legend of 1900
Film Analysis

Culture and Contextual Studies for Design
Giuseppe Tornatore’s Drama Film “The Legend of 1900” is one of the best films during the 1998. This film mainly shows the wonderful and poignant life of a talented pianist named 1900 on the ship. This essay will argue that the background information of the film maker, the characteristics of the film, the main plots, the shooting techniques and the protagonist’s life pattern. This movie was shot in the form of second- person memories. The film combines classical music and jazz from the 19th century. It shows the lifestyle and culture background of people in the nineteenth century.
Giuseppe Tornatore is a famous Italian film director and screenwriter. He has made an outstanding contribution on the history of Italian Cinema. His most popular films include Cinema Paradiso, Malena, the legend of 1900 and the best offer. (Flickchart (No date) The Best Movie Directed by Giuseppe Tornatore) Most of the films he directed are very realistic styles. Each contains different people’s different life experience and patterns.
In “The Legend of 1900,” it mainly talks about an orphan who has abandoned on a ship and become a genius pianist. Everyone who listened to his piano music is being attracted. He can play jazz with different melody, and he takes the piano to the extreme. For instance, these piano songs include “Lost Boy Calling,” “Silent goodbye” and “Crisis.” (Tunefind (1998) The Legend of 1900 Sound Track.) He incorporated his emotions into piano music, he gave the piano his own soul. For example, after he fell in love with the heroine, he played a song full of love and beauty. He named this piano piece as “Playing love” (IMDb (1998) The Legend of 1900)
In this film, the atmosphere, lights and shadows are rendered very well. It includes emotive and lyric soundtrack. As part of film arts, music should not be underestimated. The piano in the play is a symbol that represent film art, and it plays a vital role in the creation of film music. (Li Jing (2021) Interpreting Life with Music: Piano Works Appreciation and Its Application in the Film “The Legend of 1900”) The colour and lighting of the film is very clean and appropriate to the melody of piano music. This also shows the mood change of the protagonist. For example, Protagonist plays a sad farewell performance in the white piano room with shadow reflected on it, this giving people a feeling of loneliness. (IMDb (1998) The Legend of 1900) He seems to be immersed in his own world, very monotonous and lonely.
The most classic parts in this play are the life pattern of the protagonist. The worthiest of consideration in this movie is about the life pattern of 1900. He believes that people’s desire is endless. When people get one thing, they want more. When he gets something that he was looking forward to, he will lose his previous pursuit, and if he doesn’t get it, he will face disappointment and pain. He tries to restrain his desires and limited his life pattern on the ship he lives on, not the land that he has never seen before. For instance, 1900 once said in the film “It wasn’t what I saw that stopped me, Max, it was what I didn’t see. In all that sprawling city, there was everything except an end. There was no end.” (Quotes (2021) The Legend of 1900) For the explanation of this sentence, he said “The keys begin, the keys end. You know there are 88 of them. Nobody can tell you different. They are not infinite. You get me up on that gangway and your rill out in front of me a keyboard of millions of keys, Millions and billions of keys that never end. And if that keyboard is infinite, then on that keyboard there is no music you can play.” (Quotes (2021) The Legend of 1900) He believes that in in a limited area, he has the opportunity to do everything to the extreme. If he faces an unknown and vast world, he will face endless exploration, and he will not be able to make it perfect.
In conclusion, this film is very worth watching and has a high viewing value. This film shows different shooting method, and it integrated music into the film. The play also contains a person’s outlook on life and world. It’s an excellent film
